The common octopus has three hearts, blue blood, and can change both its colour and texture in an instant - mimicking rock, sand or seaweed so perfectly it vanishes before your eyes. Over half its brain cells are in its arms, meaning each one can sense, taste and “think” independently. Incredibly intelligent, octopuses can solve puzzles, use tools and even recognise people.

A female octopus will care for her eggs night and day, not leaving even to feed. Once the hatchlings have swum away, she dies – literally giving her life for her offspring.
