Katie and Jack at Leocadia are championing seaweeds. Coral-weed, peacock’s tail and sugar kelp - their names evoke the extraordinary shapes and colours found along our shores.

Some float beneath the tide, others can survive drying out in the sun, quickly restarting photosynthesis when the tide returns.

In rock pools and along the strandline, seaweeds create shelter for shrimps, crabs and countless other creatures. They are ecological powerhouses: producing oxygen, storing carbon, and forming kelp forests that help protect our coastline from storms.

Katie and Jack are selling seaweed inspired gifts and informing customers of their vital importance to local biodiversity.
