Having a young family, Dave and Gemma at BluBambu recognise the vital importance of sustainability and have made this a priority for their business. When they opened their new store in an industrial unit on the edge of Lymington they were excited by the opportunity it presented to make a positive environmental impact. They could also see the potential to inspire their customers to celebrate and support the local wildlife.

The substantial site currently provides almost nothing to support local biodiversity, but BluBambu have pledged to create a number of large planters to be placed around the outside of the building and across the car park. The introduction of flowering and structural plants will provide nourishment and shelter to all kinds of wonderful insects from butterflies and bees to moths and hoverflies. The planters, which will be constructed from pallets left behind by deliveries, will also create spaces for decaying leaves and twigs. These damp, dark areas will create the perfect habitat for numerous bugs and beetles.

It is important to Dave and Gemma to promote our incredible wildlife and, in time, their new cafe will continue the insect theme inside. BeWild are providing insect based books, games and activities for children and adults alike. After all, who doesn’t love to explore the world of minibeasts?
