BARN OWLS @
RED HILL MARKET GARDEN
Jonathan’s deep respect for the natural world and his connection to the landscape have undoubtedly formed the foundations of his principles at Red Hill Market Garden which go beyond growing fresh, seasonal produce.
Alongside his market garden, Jonathan has nurtured thriving hedgerows and rich grassland habitats that provide essential food and shelter for numerous insects and small mammals which in turn attract amphibians, reptiles, birds, bats and larger mammals. This diverse ecosystem provides natural pest control enabling Jonathan to work his land in harmony with the natural world and for his crops to flourish without the use of harmful pesticides.
Everyday Jonathan takes time to notice the incredible wildlife with whom he shares the land. In particular, a pair of barn owls that hunt across his fields most evenings at dusk have truly captured his heart. Their silent, almost ghostly presence are a reminder of the value of working to benefit both his crops and the natural world.
