Gary Joliffe, founder of Till the Coast is Clear, is deeply committed to local biodiversity, a passion rooted in the environmental values of his Norwegian upbringing. In Norway, respect for nature is woven into daily life, and for Gary, this ethos became a personal mission during his travels. In Chilean Patagonia, he saw how pollution tarnished even remote shores, and on Pembrokeshire’s windswept coastlines, littered beaches strengthened his resolve to make a difference.

Through Till the Coast is Clear, Gary channels this commitment into action. With a sustainable fleet (including a recyclable boat and kayaks made from reclaimed fishing nets) and a team of dedicated volunteers, he reaches secluded beaches to remove plastic and other debris. These pollutants are then carefully upcycled, recycled, or converted into energy, ensuring nothing is wasted.

Beyond these vital clean-ups that support marine and coastal wildlife, Till the Coast is Clear builds connections and drives change by working with schools, businesses, and the local community. Gary has also created Force 4 Nature, which links local volunteers with impactful nature regeneration projects, and The Dolphin Project, which is transforming a diesel-powered vessel into a renewable-energy community boat that will enable more people to experience and protect aquatic and estuary wildlife.
